DIY LED Bike Light #3

I bought a quick charger and some AA NiMh cells because I found that I was starting a ride with a semi-dead battery just because they still had some charge. Rechargeables cells ensure I start out with maximum light and run-time.

These gave 4 hours of runtime after which the output started to drop down to a "get-you-home" level. You still get over an hour of useable light. I carry a PP3 as an emergency backup.

Last time we were out we passed some young lads and one of them shouted "Wow that's bright!" - makes you smile when you get comments like that on a DIY set costing a fraction of the commercial offerings.
